Thursday Men's Club

---------------------------------------------   Terms   ---------------------------------------------
Net Games: Net means that handicaps are used in the scoring for the given event or game. If your 9-hole handicap is 9, you get 1 stroke per hole, such that your gross score is reduced to a net score. If your 9-hole handicap is 3, you get 1 stroke for each of the top 3 handicap holes. For example, if you score a 5 on both the 6th and 7th hardest handicap holes, and your 9-hole handicap is a 6, then your net score on the 6th hardest hole will be a 4 and your net score on the 7th hardest hole will be a 5.
When marking scorecards for events, you should always record your gross score, and handicaps will be applied later.

Gross Games:Gross means that handicaps are not used in the scoring for the given event or game. Your score for a hole played is your score, period.

Flights: A flight is a way of grouping competitors who are of relatively similar handicaps. When competing in an event against other teams/individuals in a flight you are competing against them only and not members of other flights. This allows for multiple flight winners each week.

2 - Man Vegas:
This is a net (handicapped) game. These events will be counted towards your handicap and are flighted.
This is a team/partner game where each team is awarded a "Vegas" score hole by hole. The "Vegas" scores for all holes are accumulated for a total point score, the lower the score the better.
A "Vegas" score is the lowest 2-digit number that can be created by using the 2 partners Net scores for each hole. For example, if Player A scores a net 4 and Player B scores a net 2 on a hole, then the team "Vegas" score for that hole is 24.

2 - Man Best Ball:
This is a net (handicapped) game. These events will be counted towards your handicap and are flighted.
This is a team/partner game where each team is awarded a "Best" score hole by hole. The "Best" scores for all holes are accumulated for a total point score, the lower the score the better.
A "Best" score is the lowest of the 2 partners Net scores for each hole. For example, if Player A scores a net 4 and Player B scores a net 3 on a hole, then the team "Best" score for that hole is 3.

2 - Man Red/White/Blue Scramble:
This is not a handicapped game. These events will not be counted towards your handicap, and are not flighted.
This is a team/partner game where each team is awarded their non-handicapped gross score for a 9 or 18 hole round, with each hole played using a scramble format, and with a "red/white/blue" tee box twist on each hole.
Scramble format rules are as follows:
•  At least 3 drives from each member of the team must be used during the course of any 9 hole round.
•  After each shot, the better of the two shots is selected and both players play from that spot, repeating until the ball is holed.
•  You may move the ball one club length" through the green" no closer to the hole and must remain in the same type grass (fairway/rough/first cut/sand).
•  On the green you may move the ball 4" but no closer to the hole.
•  One team gross score is recorded.
Red/White/Blue tee box format rules are as follows:
•  On the first hole, the tee box used will be the White(middle) tees.
•  After the first hole, the tee box used will depend on the results of the previous hole:
•  If a gross par was scored by the team on the previous hole, the tee box used will be the White(middle) tees.
•  If a gross birdie or better was scored by the team on the previous hole, the tee box used will be the Blue(back) tees.
•  If a gross bogie or worse was scored by the team on the previous hole, the tee box used will be the Red(forward) tees.

Match Play:
This is a net (handicapped) game. These events will not be counted towards your handicap, and are not flighted.
This is an individual game where each player is competing against another player in a match play format using net hole scores. A match is over when one player has won more holes than the number of holes remaining to be played.

Shoot Out:
This is a net (handicapped) game. These events will not be counted towards your handicap.  If we have 20 or more players signed up we will have 2 flights.
This is an individual game where each player is competing against every other player in the field. Think of this as a single hole elimination where the highest net scores and ties are eliminated.
Eliminations are made using the following scoring system:
Hole 1 & 2 scores will be added together for a combined net score, and the highest 8 net scores will be eliminated from the shoot out. Ties will be decided by a chipoff.
Hole 3 highest 4 net scores will be eliminated from the shoot out. Ties will be decided by a chipoff.
Hole 4 highest 2 net scores will be eliminated from the shoot out. Ties will be decided by a chipoff.
Hole 5 highest 2 net scores will be eliminated from the shoot out. Ties will be decided by a chipoff.
Hole 6 highest 2 net scores will be eliminated from the shoot out. Ties will be decided by a chipoff.
Hole 7 highest net score will be eliminated from the shoot out. If tied, match goes to the next hole until a winner has been declared.

-----------------------------------   Other Games   ------------------------------------
4 - Man 3-2-1 Net Best Ball: A team score is calculated by taking the best net scores from the group
• The three best net scores from the group on the par 3's,
• The two best net scores from the group on the par 4's
• The one best net score from the group on the par 5's.

2 - Man Scramble:  Three drives from each member of the team must be used during the course of the round.
After each shot, the better of the two shots is selected and both players play from that spot, until the ball is holed.  You may move the ball one club length" through the green" no closer to the hole and must remain in the same type grass (fairway/ rough/ first cut). On the green you may move the ball 4" no closer to the hole . One team gross score is recorded.

Criss Cross: Is a tournament format in to compare corresponding scores on their scorecard and choose the lower of two scores, resulting in a 9-hole total score. It is not as complicated as we just made it sound. Here is how it works:
Front 9 holes are paired up with the corresponding Back 9 hole. In other words, think of No. 1 and No. 10 as a pair, No. 2 and No. 11, No. 3 and No. 12, and so on up to No. 9 and No. 18. Following the round, compare the scores you recorded on No. 1 and No. 10 and circle the lower of the two. Compare No. 2 and No. 11 and circle the lower of the two, and so on through No. 9 and No. 18. Then add up the 9 holes you have circled for your total score.

Blind Hole: Is a tournament in which only 7 of the 9 holes count in the team's final score. The catch is that the teams do not know which 7 holes count until after the round is completed. The tournament organizers usually wait until all teams have teed off before randomly selecting the 7 holes whose scores will be used.

2 Man Combined Net: Each player on the team plays his own ball until completing the hole. Two scores our added together. Your adjusted gross score minus handicap strokes are added together per hole.
